Information on UMSU Health and Dental Insurance
In the Fall Session of each year all undergraduate students who are taking 6 or more credit hours on campus and all Full-Time Graduate Studies students are assessed the UMSU Health and Dental Plan fee on their tuition fee statements. Newly admitted student in the Winter Session will also be assessed the UMSU Health and Dental Plan fee on their tuition fee statements. Eligible students wishing to enter the plan who have not been assessed the plan fee may request to opt-in through the UMSU Health and Dental Office. Payment of the insurance plan fee should be included with tuition payment to the university.
Opting-out
Students already covered by a health and/or dental plan through a private plan (i.e. parents, spouse, or employer) are able to provide their alternate coverage information and opt out of the plan through an online opt-out process. If you successfully opt out of the insurance plan, you are not required to include the premium amount in your fee payment to the university. First ensure that you have been assessed the Health and Dental fees by checking your Aurora Student fee assessment. Then simply deduct the exact amount of the UMSU Health and Dental Fees from your term amount owing and pay the balance to the university. The UMSU Health and Dental premium amounts will be deducted from your Student Fee Account by the end of September. The deadline to opt out varies each year please visit http://umsu.ca/ for more information or for the online opt-out form. When you complete the online opt-out you will receive a confirmation email to the email account you provided. You must hold on to this email as you may be required to provide it as you proof of opting out prior to the opt-out deadline.
Having International Student Health Insurance or Manitoba Health Insurance does not count as another provider, and is not sufficient coverage to opt out of the UMSU Health and Dental plan.
Any questions about coverage, making a claim, opting out, opting in, or other details about your health plan should be addressed to the UMSU Health and Dental Office, please see their website for contact details.
