University 1
University 1 is a unique approach to first year university education that provides you with choice and flexibility within an environment that allows you to achieve your educational goals. It is geared for students entering their first year of post-secondary education and designed to give you the opportunity to adjust to university life and its academic demands. It allows you to explore your program options and to gain experience before you make definitive decisions on your academic and career goals. Students with less than 24 credit hours (four full courses) of university experience must enter U1 unless they are entering another of our direct entry programs. If you already have a full year of university experience and want to apply, click here to find out how.
University 1 gives you the freedom to choose. It allows you to customize your first year of study to your own personal, academic, and career goals. It is not an extra year of study; rather it is the period in which you complete the entrance requirements for advanced entry programs and is the most direct route to most of our degree programs. Courses in University 1 can be used as electives in all of our schools and faculties unless specifically noted. Choose between three different course selection approaches:
To ease the transition to university and to ensure that you make informed decisions, the University 1 advising staff are there to provide information and advice through one-to-one advising and also connect students to the wealth of support services we offer. With the University 1 Online Tutorial, you will learn how to register and will receive a STARTbook that will guide you on choosing the right courses for you. Before the first day of classes, University 1 offers a two-day orientation in which you can become familiar with our campus.
